Learn About Our Cattle

Our Breeding Progam

At Rolling Hills Mini Cattle Co., we are dedicated to ethical and sustainable breeding practices. Our girls are all chondro negative and our sires are chondro positive.  This combination helps us provide beautiful, low birth weight, healthy calves.  Our program is focusing on health, temperament, conformation, and fluffiness to produce the best miniature cattle.  We have a young herd and are excited to grow and expand our breeding program.

We currently offer midsize and miniature British White, Highland, Highpark, Highbelt (Belted Galloway & Highland cross) cows bred to our registerd miniature Dexter bull.    Last  year we had our first two calves and they were adorable!  This year, we have had four very handsome bull calves.  Dolly was our late calver and blessed us with our first heifer calf of the year!  Jolene is perfect and we think we will retain her.   We love and  believe in our stock and are sure you will fall in love too.

In 2025, we sold our sire Rip and purchased a young chondro + Miniature Highland bull named Copper.  Unfortunately, he just didn't check all the boxes so we decided to replace him.  We have purchased a C+ silver Highland bull calf  as his impressive replacement so stay tuned!

We are very excited to see next years' babies running across our rolling hills!  They will all be highland crosses and we will have two first time mamas!

Why Buy Miniature Cattle?

Mini cows have increased in popularity over the last decade.  They make ideal livestock for smaller homesteads with less acreage.  Like their name suggests, these cattle are smaller than standard, commercial cattle.  They require less ground for grazing and less feed supplements. Micro/ Miniature/Midsize breeds typically mature between 36 and 48 inches and standard cattle can grow to 62 inches.    Standard breeds can reach weights up to 1200 pounds.  Our smaller breeds will mature 500-1000 pounds. While they require less, they still produce nice quantities of fresh milk, home raised beef for your freezer.  Minis make great animals for showing in 4H and FFA while providing companionship for other livestock animals and yourself!

Meet Conway!  Conway is chondro + and was born June 27, 2025.  Testing was done through UC Davis.  Dam is a Mini Highbelt , Reba, and sire is a registered Mini Dexter, Rip.  Conway was just 18 inches tall and about 30 pounds at birth.  He will be available as a steer after weaning in the fall.  $1,500.00

    Meet the Girls

Meet Reba! Reba was born in 2019 and is our herd boss.  She is our oldest cow.  Reba is a dun Minature Highbelt (Highland / Belted Galloway cross).  She is an excellent mother and lets us handle her calves.  She and Rip gave us a beautiful little bull calf in 2024 and we are anxiously awaiting their second calf in June 2025.

Meet Beth.  Beth is a midsize British White born in June of 2022.  We purchased her as a yearling heifer in 2023.  She has matured into a beautiful cow and we are so excited to announce she and Rip have finally delivered a handsome little bull calf, Cash, in April 2025.

Meet Cara.  Cara was born in 2020 and came to us spring 2024.  She is a miniature Black Angus & Herford cross (Black baldy).

Cara gives Reba a run for herd boss title every once in a while. She is a good mama and she and Rip gave us a cute little guy this spring!

Meet Freya.  Freya was born Nov. 2023 in MN.  We purchased her as a weanling spring of 2024.  Freya is a midsize Highland.  She comes to treats and like chin scratches.  We can't wait for her to mature.  We think her and Copper will make a beautiful calf for 2026!

Meet Sadie.  Sadie is our Minature Highpark.  She was born Dec. 2023 and we purchased her as a weanling spring 2024.  She is the sweetest thing!  She has a gentle demeanor and loves scratches everywhere.

We are super excited to pair Sadie and Copper together for a spring 2026 baby.

Meet Our Herd Bulls: Dutton, Copper & Rip!

Our future is looking bright!  This is our newest and best bull yet.  He absolutely checks all the boxes.  Dutton is a C+ silver, polled, miniature Highland.  He was just born this fall so we will have to be patient for a while until he's ready to go to work.  We promise he will produce some beauties!

We are excited to watch him grow and mature.  I will continue to post current photos of him as he

Copper is a chondro + miniature Highland bull.  He is absolutely beautiful and such a friendly fella!  He loves treats and being brushed.  The previous owners had him dehorned, he is NOT polled.  Copper successfully bred Sadie, Cara, and Beth this summer.  We are so excited for their 2026 calves!

Rip, the Ladies love him!  He was born in WY Aug. 22 and joined our ladies as a yearling in 2023.

Here he is flexing as a handsome 2 year old in July 2024.

He gave us 2 healthy calves in 2024 and 4 more in 2025.  He made beautiful babies but just didn't check all the boxes for us.  We sold Rip in March 2025.
